R Serial # 226694. .30-40 Krag caliber bolt action rifle with a 22” barrel. The bore is good, mostly clean with good, worn rifling with fouling/frosting at the chamber end. Made in 1900. The receiver is marked 1899. These rifles were made in the style of Philippine Constabulary rifles by Springfield Armory and Rock Island Armory for military schools and colleges. They bare a US inspectors mark cartouche and are not a true Philippine rifle converted at the Manila Arsenal. (There are only 1 or 2 known authentic Philippine rifles in the US). The blued metal finish on the barrel is in good condition showing scattered dings and scratches with thinning. The finish has taken on a dull gray patina. The metal finish on the receiver and magazine box/side plate is mostly a worn gray patina with patches of older cleaned rust. The blued metal finish on the trigger guard is worn to near bare metal. The mid band and the 1903 style nose band are a worn gray patina. The walnut stock and handguard are in very good condition showing scattered dings and scratches with finish wear. The stock cartouche is either “CV” (Charles Valentine), or CN (Conrad Nelson). 1898 style rifle rear sight. The action works fine. Includes a brass muzzle cap.
