A group of Canadian 25-cent coins featuring the caribou reverse design and the obverse portrait of King George VI. Struck in 800 fine silver, the collection includes examples dated 1945, 1947, and 1949. The obverse displays the left-facing portrait of King George VI, designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget. The 1945 and 1947 specimens feature the Latin legend GEORGIVS VI D : G : REX ET IND : IMP :, while the 1949 coins bear the revised legend GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX, reflecting the change in the monarch's titles following Indian independence. The reverse design, by Emanuel Hahn, depicts a caribou head with large antlers, inscribed with the denomination 25 Cents and the country name CANADA. Each coin is finished with a reeded edge. Condition: The coins show signs of circulation wear consistent with their age, with softened details on the high relief areas of the King's hair and the caribou's neck and antlers. Surface contact marks and light scratches are visible throughout the group. The 1945 coin and one 1949 specimen display notable brownish-yellow toning, with the 1945 coin also showing dark patination and traces of verdigris to the reverse rim. The coins range in condition from fine to very fine.
