Original May 8, 1964 issue of LIFE Magazine, Vol. 56, No. 19. The cover features President Lyndon B. Johnson with a lineup of potential vice-presidential running mates, including Robert F. Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey, Adlai Stevenson, Robert McNamara and others. Featured content includes the Kennedy portrait and memorial stamp, President Johnson’s controversial dog-lifting incident, Vietnam letters, World War I battlefronts, the beheaded Little Mermaid statue, the 1964 New York World’s Fair and vintage advertising. Advertisements include Coca-Cola’s “See-the-Fair Sweepstakes,” Newport cigarettes, Hunt’s catsup, Kellogg’s Special K, Admiral televisions, Avon, Gordon’s Gin and more. Shows age-related wear, including yellowing and discoloration, surface marks, creasing, edge and corner wear, small tears and heavier damage near the lower corner of the back cover.
