Original May 29, 1964 issue of LIFE Magazine, Vol. 56, No. 22, featuring Jacqueline Kennedy on the cover. The featured article, “How He Really Was,” was written by Mrs. Kennedy and discusses President John F. Kennedy’s favorite books, personal belongings and treasured mementos selected for the Kennedy Library. Additional content includes the 1964 presidential campaign, Nelson Rockefeller and Henry Cabot Lodge, civil rights, Vietnam, French Yé-Yé singers and a powerful photo feature on James Baldwin’s play Blues for Mister Charlie. Filled with period advertising, including Miller High Life, Pall Mall, Chesterfield, Schlitz, Admiral television, General Electric and more. Shows age-related wear, including yellowing, cover scratches and creases, edge and corner wear, small tears and damage near the lower spine. An address label remains attached to the front cover.
