This meticulously compiled service album documents the tenure of a German soldier within the Heer (Army) during World War II, spanning the years 1940 to 1944. The 9.5" x 10" tan pebble-grain album is a mid-1950s retrospective housing, featuring red-and-white embossed labels on the cover and opening page. The collection contains 192 original silver-gelatin photographs across 29 pages. The visual narrative begins with a memorial tribute to an individual born in 1891 and deceased in 1952, possibly the soldier’s father or a high-ranking mentor. The wartime imagery provides extensive documentation of barracks life, personnel in M36 and M40 field tunics, and large-scale unit formations. A significant portion of the album captures the "Eastern" experience, featuring candid interactions with local populations in rural occupied territories, log-cabin architecture, and the somber reality of a field funeral. The album remains a well-preserved, candid record of service and family remembrance. PM
