This Mexican Tonala stoneware jug features a bulbous body narrowing to a tapered neck with a small pouring lip and a single loop handle, paired with a matching domed stopper. It is decorated in the traditional folk-art style of Jalisco with hand-painted motifs including a large stylised bird surrounded by scrolling foliage and floral patterns. The colour palette consists of cobalt blue, forest green, and earthy brown tones against a characteristic speckled buff ground. The handle and neck are accented with solid brown slip. The underside of the base features a painted brown circular band enclosing a stylised animal mark and the word MEXICO. Height approx. 30 cm. Condition: The jug is in generally good condition. There is a small, shallow chip or irregularity to the rim of the pouring spout. The surface shows minor wear and light scuffing consistent with handled use. Free of visible cracks or restoration.
