Artist: Michel Rostand (1895–1976) Title: Street Musicians (untitled) Medium: Watercolour on paper Sight Size: 3 × 5 in. Frame Size: 8 × 10 in. Signature: Signed lower right Michel Rostand. A lively original watercolour by Michel Rostand depicting an animated street performance with a standing cellist and gathered spectators rendered in a loose, expressive manner. Warm sienna and ochre washes contrast with cool blue and grey passages, creating a vibrant sense of movement and atmosphere. Despite its miniature scale, the composition effectively captures the energy of a bustling urban scene through economical brushwork and bold colour harmonies. Artist Biography Michel Rostand (1895–1976) was a Romanian-born painter who worked extensively in Montréal and became associated with the city's post-war artistic community. He was particularly known for his miniature paintings, city scenes, floral subjects, and still lifes executed in a Neo-Impressionist manner. Rostand exhibited in Montréal, and his miniature works received attention at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. His work is recorded in the Benezit Dictionary of Artists and the Dictionnaire des artistes de l'objet d'art au Québec
