A whimsical original colour etching from David Silverberg's celebrated Peruvian Series, depicting a mythical winged llama or alpaca inspired by the folklore and imagery of the Andes. Combining meticulous engraving with rich intaglio colour, Silverberg transforms a familiar South American animal into an imaginative hybrid creature, demonstrating the artist's distinctive blend of fantasy, humour, and technical precision. Artist's proofs from Silverberg's travel-inspired series are less common than regular editions and are especially desirable to collectors. Artist Biography: David Silverberg, RCA, FRSA (born 1936) is one of Canada's foremost contemporary printmakers. Born in Montreal, he studied as a child under Group of Seven member Arthur Lismer before attending McGill University. In 1957 he continued his printmaking studies at the renowned Atelier 17 in Paris under Stanley William Hayter, where he was influenced by artists including Marc Chagall and Max Ernst. Silverberg taught printmaking at Mount Allison University for over three decades and was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) in 1994. His finely executed engravings and etchings, often inspired by extensive international travel, are represented in numerous public and private collections across Canada and abroad
