Artist Biography: Edmond Dyonnet (1859–1954) was one of Canada's most respected academic painters, draftsmen, and educators. Born in France, he immigrated to Canada at an early age and studied at the Accademia Albertina in Turin before settling in Montreal. Dyonnet became a central figure in Canadian art education, teaching for decades at the Art Association of Montreal (now the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts School of Art and Design), where he influenced generations of Canadian artists.Known for his landscapes, portraits, figure studies, and meticulous draftsmanship, Dyonnet exhibited widely with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, of which he was a long-standing member and later president. His works are represented in major public collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and numerous provincial institutions.
