Original Pen & Ink Drawing Artist: Gary Peter Slipper, RCA (Canadian, 1934–2019) Title: Untitled Figure Study Medium: Original Pen & Ink Drawing on paper Signature: Signed lower left, "Slipper" Sight Size: 10.5 x 5.5 in. Frame Size: 18.5 x 12.5 in. An expressive original pen and ink figure study by Gary Peter Slipper, RCA, one of Canada's most respected twentieth-century figurative artists. Executed with rapid, confident strokes, the composition depicts several loosely rendered figures, including an embracing standing couple and a seated nude, demonstrating Slipper's remarkable ability to capture gesture, movement, and form with an economy of line. Artist Biography: Gary Peter Slipper, RCA (1934–2019) was a distinguished Canadian painter and draftsman born in Calgary, Alberta. He studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Vancouver School of Art, the American Academy of Art in Chicago, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, and continued his studies in Florence, Italy. These experiences, together with his study of Flemish Renaissance painting, profoundly influenced his highly personal figurative style. Working in oils, tempera, ink, pencil, and mixed media, Slipper became known for his imaginative figurative compositions, portraits, still lifes, and surrealist-inspired works. He exhibited extensively throughout Canada and internationally and was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) in 1977. His work is represented in numerous public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, Vancouver Art Gallery, Agnes Etherington Art Centre, McCord Museum, and the Canada Council Art Bank.
