The artist skillfully captures the twisting trunk, branching structure, and delicate foliage through expressive graphite strokes that balance careful observation with spontaneous execution. Artist Biography: Gary Peter Slipper, RCA (1934–2019) was a distinguished Canadian painter and draftsman born in Calgary, Alberta. He studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Vancouver School of Art, the American Academy of Art in Chicago, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, and continued his studies in Florence, Italy. These experiences, together with his study of Flemish Renaissance painting, profoundly influenced his highly personal figurative style. Working in oils, tempera, ink, pencil, and mixed media, Slipper became known for his imaginative figurative compositions, portraits, still lifes, and surrealist-inspired works. He exhibited extensively throughout Canada and internationally and was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) in 1977. His work is represented in numerous public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, Vancouver Art Gallery, Agnes Etherington Art Centre, McCord Museum, and the Canada Council Art Bank.
