This 21-inch German bisque doll features the incised "Special" mark attributed to either Adolf Wislizenus or Schoenau & Hoffmeister, both prominent in early 20th-century dollmaking. The stylized script signature on the back of the neck points to a known mold series, with the kid leather rivet-jointed body and porcelain/bisque jointed forearms and lower legs further suggesting Wislizenus manufacture. The doll retains a partial sticker on the torso, adding provenance. The doll is dressed in blue and white period costume with shoes and stockings. Condition reveals age wear: yellowing to inserted fixed eyes, open mouth with visible teeth, craquelure and soiling to the composition lower arms and legs, minor losses to the fingers, and evidence of possible restoration. A classic example of German craftsmanship with noted collector attributes. **Shipping Notice: Due to the delicate nature of the doll's sleep eye mechanism, any shipped doll will arrive with the wig and skull cap removed, and the eyes secured to help minimize the risk of damage during transit. Please expect this if you require shipping. Because of the additional time and care required to prepare the doll for safe shipment, an additional handling fee may apply. These dolls are exceptionally fragile, and while we take the greatest care in packing and securing every item, shipping always carries an inherent risk. By requesting shipping, you acknowledge and accept the possibility of damage that may occur during transit.
