Japanese Kutani porcelain Hawk & Pine Tree platter measures 16" long by 12" wide. The center features a highly detailed, hand-painted motif of a hawk perched on a stylized pine tree (Taka ni matsu), a classic Japanese symbol of strength and endurance, accompanied by small sparrows in flight. The rim is richly decorated in traditional Kutani style. The reverse side has floral & pine motifs along the rim, a traditional raised center firing ridge, and is marked in red with four characters reading "Kaga Kutani". The platter is in excellent antique condition with no visible chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs. There is minor, age-appropriate rubbing to the gilding along the rim and very light surface wear consistent with age.
