Estimate: 70 / 700 Military commission signed by President William McKinley on August 10, 1898, promoting U.S. Navy officer Charles J. MacConnell to Chief Engineer following his distinguished service aboard Admiral William T. Sampson's flagship USS New York during the decisive Battle of Santiago de Cuba, which effectively ended the Spanish-American War. Accompanied by two related Department of the Navy letters dated August 11, 1898, confirming the promotion. Commission approximately 15½ × 19 inches, in very good condition with bold McKinley signature. Condition: Mild toning and creasing, Good.
