Original calf boards stamped in blind, expertly rebacked with clasps renewed. One of the earliest substantial histories of the Jesuits. Written by the Jesuit historian Niccolò Orlandini, this volume chronicles the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the foundation and early expansion of the Jesuit order, drawing upon official sources and eyewitness testimony. Long regarded as a principal early source for the history of the Society, it documents the formation of the Jesuit mission, spirituality, governance, and apostolic work during the Counter-Reformation. Condition: Edges with some chipping and wear. Contents with intermittent toning throughout (due to varying paper), early ink to upper title margin. Good+.
