Dillingen: Bencard, 1693. 6.2" x 3.5". 470 pp. Bound in period blind-stamped pig, clasps wanting. A nice 17th c. Jesuit edition of three of Cicero's principal rhetorical works: De Oratore, his dialogue on the ideal orator; Brutus (De Claris Oratoribus), a history and critical survey of Roman eloquence; and Orator ad M. Brutum, his mature exposition of perfect rhetorical style. Printed at the Jesuit academic press in Dillingen, a major center of Catholic scholarship during the Counter-Reformation. Condition: Vellum lightly soiled and stained, contents with some light foxing and occasional minor stains, front endpaper absent, Good overall.
