This hand-carved Broadbill (Bluebill) hen is a quintessential "working" decoy from the Eastern flyway. Solidly constructed from a single block of wood, its lightweight and buoyant design is a testament to the regional craftsmanship. The eyes are painted. Though its maker remains anonymous, the hand-painted plumage and simple, effective carving style capture the soul of early 20th-century water fowling. Now retired from the marsh, the weights have been removed and so it sits perfectly flat, MEASUREMENTS 14 in (35.6 cm) long x 5 ¼ in (13.3 cm) wide x 6 in (15.2 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 4.0 oz. CONDITION The beak broke and was reattached. There are a few paint losses, most noticeable on the head and end of the tail. There are two indentations on the back that were painted over. There is a bare patch on the base where the weight was removed. A folk art piece that would make a soulful addition to any collection of Americana. Period: Mid 20th Century Origin: United States Materials: Wood/Paint Dimensions: 14"W × 5.25"D × 6"H
