A very heavily cast iron Japanese teapot with decorations of bamboo, pine and prunus. These are referred to as "the three friends in winter". The body of the teapot is low and squat. The casting is deep and very visible, with a stippled, dimpled surface. The pot has a round loop handle that is attached to the body near the mouth. The lid is also cast with the three friend's design, and has a tall knob. The base is flat. This design has been reproduced for many years but this is older than many on the market. I estimate that it's between 50 and 75 years old. The pot has an old dark patina, with rust spots from usage. These mainly occur near the mouth and on the base. There is a worn mark under the lid that I am unable to make out. MEASUREMENTS 7 ½ in (19.0 cm) long x 6 ¼ in (15.9 cm) diameter x 3 ¼ in (8.3 cm) tall without handle extended. 6 in (15.2 cm) tall with handle extended Weighs 3 lbs 7.8 oz. CONDITION There are the rust spots on the body and base. There is minor flaking of the iron around the opening. The interior is dark with no rust. There is a tiny chip on the spout. There are no other chips, breaks, cracks, or dents. A beautiful Japanese cast iron teapot with artistic designs for a collection or use for your own tea ceremony. Period: Early 20th Century Origin: Japan Materials: Cast Iron Dimensions: 7.5"W × 6.25"D × 3.25"H
