Vintage mid-century children’s book bundle. Overall good used condition and varies by book. However, bindings are intact and secure with interior pages generally clean given their age. This bundle includes: 1. Curious George by H. A. Rey. This is the original Curious George story. George is brought from Africa by the Man with the Yellow Hat, and his curiosity leads him through a series of adventures involving an accidental telephone call, jail, balloons and eventually a new home at the zoo. The book retains Rey’s classic full-color illustrations. This is a particularly nice vintage Scholastic Book Services edition of H. A. Rey’s classic Curious George. Although the story was originally copyrighted in 1941, the copyright page in this copy specifically states “1st printing — November 1963” for this Scholastic Book Services edition. It was published by arrangement with Houghton Mifflin Company. The original price was 50¢, which is also printed on the front cover. This is therefore not a 1941 first edition, but it is the first printing of the 1963 Scholastic edition, which makes it more interesting than an ordinary modern reprint. Good vintage used condition. The softcover shows expected age and use, including rubbing, light surface soiling, edge and corner wear, small bends, creases and some age toning. The pages have age toning but the illustrations remain attractive and colorful. The binding is intact. There is previous-owner writing on the title page. Otherwise, no major page loss or extensive scribbling is visible in the photographs. 2. Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton. Katy is a powerful red crawler tractor who serves the city of Geoppolis. When a huge snowstorm buries the city and brings normal activity to a halt, Katy tirelessly plows roads so firefighters, doctors and other essential services can get through. Burton’s distinctive illustrations include the wonderful double-page illustrated map of the snow-covered city. Vintage Scholastic Book Services softcover edition of Virginia Lee Burton’s classic illustrated children’s story. The copyright page states copyright ©1943 by Virginia Lee Demetrios and copyright renewed ©1971 by George Demetrios. More importantly for identifying this copy, it states “1st printing — December 1973.” Therefore, this is not the original 1943 first edition, but appears to be the first printing of this 1973 Scholastic edition. Fair to Good vintage used condition. The covers have moderate rubbing, scratches, edge and corner wear and some creasing. There is a prominent circular stain/ring across the front cover, along with additional discoloration and handling marks. The rear cover has rubbing and edge wear. Interior pages show age toning and scattered light marks, soiling but remain quite attractive and readable. The binding is intact, and the illustrated map and other pages remain in good usable condition.
