Title: Woman with Blue Face and Striped Hair Technique: Gouache on paper Measures: 12 x 9 inches (approximately 30.5 x 22.9 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition. The work displays vivid, saturated colors, thick black contours, and visible brushwork throughout. Minor surface wear, toning and show-through of the composition on the reverse, and age-related imperfections may be present. Presented unframed. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private collection, Helsinki; reportedly held in private hands since the early 1970s. Specific prior ownership was not provided. Visual Description: A vibrant Cubist-inspired bust portrait of a woman whose face combines frontal and profile views, rendered in bright turquoise blue and outlined in heavy black. Her eyes are set in green and yellow planes, with violet pupils, and a crosshatched violet circle marks her cheek beside full magenta lips. Her hair sweeps up into a large rounded form and falls to her shoulder in bands of pink, lavender, blue, and cream, accented by a yellow diamond earring. Behind her, a dark panel with a white lattice pattern contrasts with a yellow-green brick-like background and a column of pink dashes at the right. Her red and pink bodice is built from rounded and triangular forms. Rendered in the Cubist style of Pablo Picasso, the work emphasizes simultaneous viewpoints, bold contour, and decorative pattern, recalling the artist’s celebrated portraits of women from the late 1930s. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
