Title: Blonde Woman in a Blue Dress on a Red Ground Technique: Gouache on paper Measures: 11 x 8 inches (approximately 27.9 x 20.3 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition. The work displays bold, flat colors, crisp black ink contours, and fine hatched line work. Minor surface wear, light show-through of the composition on the reverse, and age-related imperfections may be present. Presented in a black frame with a brushed silver-toned inner liner. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private collection, Kansas City, Missouri; reportedly purchased privately in the late 1980s. Earlier provenance information was not supplied at the time of cataloging. Visual Description: A playful caricature-style composition depicting a glamorous woman with voluminous golden-yellow curls, closed eyes with long lashes, and bright red lips set in a contented smile. She wears a deep blue V-neck dress and holds both hands open at her sides in a light, theatrical gesture. Her pale skin and elongated neck are outlined in fluid black ink, with small hatched accents defining her features. Behind her, a vivid red background is animated by radiating bursts of black hatched lines that frame the figure like a spotlight. Rendered in the whimsical illustrative style of Dr. Seuss, the work emphasizes exaggerated proportion, lively line, and humor, recalling the artist’s celebrated cartoons and character drawings. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
