Title: Hay Bales, Cornflowers and Rolling Clouds Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 15 x 23 inches (38.1 x 58.4 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition. The surface shows thick, textured impasto with short, swirling strokes and strong color. Minor surface wear may be present. The reverse shows toning, scattered staining and stamp marks. Presented in a dark bronze-toned frame with a gold-toned inner edge. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private collection, Barcelona, Spain. Visual Description: A rural harvest scene of round hay bales resting in a golden wheat field beneath a sky of rolling clouds. The largest bale sits at the right, with three smaller bales receding across the field toward a band of green and blue trees and distant hills. The clouds are built up in thick, curling strokes of white, pink and violet against a deep blue sky. The wheat is laid in with short vertical strokes of yellow, ochre and orange. A row of blue cornflowers runs across the foreground. The work bears an inscription reading “Vincent” in black at the lower right. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
