1866 United States two cent piece housed in a stapled cardboard coin holder. The obverse shows the shield design with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a ribbon above, and the reverse shows a wreath of wheat with the denomination 2 CENTS and the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The coin is bronze or copper colored and heavily circulated, with dark brown toning and wear that has flattened much of the design detail on both sides. The holder is handwritten and reads 4628 $47 on the top flap and RARE 2¢ 1866 below the coin. Metal content is copper and tin bronze as struck. Date of 1866 is as written on the holder and is consistent with the design. The coin remains sealed in the holder as shown. See all item photos and ask any questions prior to bidding.
