AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A vintage Sawyer’s View-Master stereoscopic viewer with 3 original natural-color Kodachrome reels and 3 matching paper sleeves, offered together as one lot. The brown mottled Bakelite viewer is a Sawyer’s Model B, the rounded clamshell-style design produced during the 1940s. This early viewer predates the later rectangular Model C and uses ambient light through the rear viewing windows to illuminate the stereoscopic images. Sawyer’s introduced the View-Master system in 1939, initially marketing it as a scenic travel-viewing device rather than simply as a children’s toy. 1 > ST. AUGUSTINE OSTRICH-ALLIGATOR FARM ~ REEL NO. 160 Original Sawyer’s View-Master reel featuring scenes from the historic St. Augustine Alligator and Ostrich Farm in Florida. Individual views identified directly on the reel include Ponce de Leon Bridge, Former Slave Market, Alligator and Ostrich Farm, Lighthouse at St. Augustine, Alligators, Old Denver Car, Crocodile and Alligator, Spanish St. Augustine and related Florida scenes. Reel retains its original 7 More Wonders of the World sleeve marked Natural Color ~ Stereoscopic Views ~ Third Dimension Pictures in Natural Color Kodachrome. 2 > CYPRESS GARDENS AND BOK TOWER FLORIDA ~ REEL NO. 164 Original Sawyer’s View-Master reel devoted to Cypress Gardens and Bok Tower, Florida, with labeled scenes including Moss Hung Cypress, Azaleas and Flowers, The Path Through the Flowers, Tropical Plant Life, Bok Tower and Mountain Lake, Water Skiing and other Florida tourist views. The reel is documented in surviving View-Master listings as No. 164 and retains its original printed sleeve. 3 > HAWAIIAN HULA DANCERS HAWAII ~ REEL NO. 62 Original early Sawyer’s View-Master Hawaiian reel, No. 62, titled Hawaiian Hula Dancers, Hawaii. Visible captions include The Cockeyed Mayor of Kaunakakai, Hawaiian Hula Dancers, Going After the Coconut, Hilo Hattie and other hula scenes. Collector documentation confirms No. 62 as an early Hawaiian Hula Dancers issue and records multiple photographic and caption variations for this reel number. Each View-Master reel contains seven stereoscopic image pairs, designed to produce a three-dimensional scene when viewed through the Sawyer’s viewer. The reels are constructed from paired photographic transparencies mounted in the circular card stock format used by Sawyer’s during the early View-Master era. CONDITION REPORT > Viewer exhibits age, handling and surface wear consistent with vintage Bakelite construction, including mottling and scattered marks as photographed. Reels can be viewed successfully in the viewer and advance properly with the lever.
