AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > SOUTHEASTERN INDIANS: LIFE PORTRAITS ~ A CATALOGUE OF PICTURES 1564-1860, edited by Emma Lila Fundaburk This important pictorial reference was originally published in 1958 and documents Native peoples of the southeastern United States through historical paintings, drawings, engravings, photographs and other period imagery. The University of Alabama Press describes the work as containing more than 350 illustrations and identifies tribes represented including the Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, Seminole, Timucua, Powhatan, Natchez, Chitimacha, Tuscarora, Caddo, Yuchi and Shawnee, among others. The photographed interior demonstrates the substantial visual content, including portrait studies associated with McKenney and Hall, illustrations relating to Osceola and the Seminole, and earlier depictions of southeastern Native peoples. The volume was compiled from material held by numerous institutions and has long been used as a visual reference by historians, archaeologists, museums and researchers studying dress, ornament, architecture, warfare and other aspects of southeastern Native American history. The dust jacket also promotes SUN CIRCLES AND HUMAN HANDS: THE SOUTHEASTERN INDIANS ~ ART AND INDUSTRIES, another Fundaburk reference work originally published in 1957. That companion title documents prehistoric southeastern Native American art and material culture. CONDITION REPORT > Original dust jacket is present but shows substantial age and storage wear including edge tears, losses, creasing, discoloration and staining, with a large loss along the lower rear edge and handwritten marking on the rear jacket. Book remains visually substantial inside with numerous illustrated plates and reference material as photographed. Binding, pages and overall condition should be judged from the photographs
