Two antique hand tools. The first is a drawknife with a forged steel blade and two turned wooden handles set at right angles, each ferruled and pinned through the end. The ruler in the photographs shows the blade running most of the length of a twelve inch rule. A drawknife is pulled toward the user with both hands to shave bark and wood from a workpiece, and it was the tool that shaped axe handles, chair legs, wagon spokes and shingles long before a lathe sat in every shop. The second is a pair of one piece spring steel sheep shears with a heart shaped bow and two long triangular blades, the traditional hand shear used on farms before powered clippers. Condition is poor to fair on both. The drawknife blade is heavily oxidized and pitted and the wooden handles are checked and cracked with age. The shears carry uniform surface rust over the whole length, but both blades are straight with intact points. Estimated Value: $30 to $50 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is.
