Title: Crimson Field with Green Passage Technique: Acrylic on paper Measures: 19 x 17 Year: Undated Condition: Good overall condition based on the supplied image. The composition retains strong, saturated color and clearly articulated painted passages, with visible variations in opacity, layering, and surface texture inherent to the technique. Minor surface irregularities, tonal variations, and handling characteristics may be present and should be considered consistent with a work on paper. No major tears, extensive losses, or severe structural damage are apparent in the supplied image. No frame is visible. Provenance: Private collection, Connecticut. According to verbal provenance, the work was obtained during the clearance of a residential property in Greenwich in the 1980s and retained privately thereafter. Supporting records from the clearance are unavailable. Visual Description: This vertically oriented abstract composition is organized through expansive fields of saturated color interrupted by sweeping gestural passages, translucent layers, and areas where pigments overlap and partially reveal the underlying surface. A dominant field of intense crimson and vermilion occupies much of the upper and left portions of the composition, its surface animated by subtle shifts in density, broad vertical movements, scraped passages, and irregular areas of orange, brown, and muted green. The red field is neither uniform nor static; instead, it appears built through successive applications of pigment that create a sense of atmospheric depth and physical immediacy. Along the right side, the palette transitions dramatically into deep teal, blue-gray, forest green, cream, and charcoal. Vertical bands and loosely brushed forms establish a counterweight to the expansive red area, while pale cream-colored gestures descend through the darker field in fluid, irregular strokes. Across the lower center and right, broad curving passages of gray, white, and black sweep laterally through the composition, producing a strong sense of movement and separating the upper chromatic fields from the vivid green form occupying the foreground. This saturated green passage rises from the lower edge in a broad undulating arc, creating a landscape-like suggestion without resolving into a literal representation. Smaller green accents at the left edge establish a visual correspondence across the composition and intensify the contrast between warm and cool color zones. The handling of paint alternates between broad washes, dragged pigment, opaque strokes, thin veils of color, and spontaneous gestural marks. Rather than constructing conventional perspective, the composition generates spatial depth through transparency, overlapping color fields, shifts in saturation, and the physical interaction of painted layers. The resulting image balances spontaneity with a deliberate chromatic structure: the expansive red field creates visual heat and density, while the cooler blue-green passages
