Hand-carved and painted wooden Katsina figure featuring a white and black geometric mask, prominent ears, tall green and yellow headdress with fiber accents, and a long white garment. The torso is intricately decorated in green, gold, brown, purple, black, and white with painted bird imagery and additional geometric details. Fiber or cotton-like material accents the headdress and body, adding texture to the figure. The carving bears an artist’s mark/signature near the lower back, although the artist and specific Katsina represented have not been positively identified. Includes a black metal display stand and measures approximately 13" tall with the stand. The lower portion of the white garment has a substantial natural split/loss with additional cracking visible, as shown in the photos. An interesting piece of Southwestern Native American-style carved folk art. Exact Katsina identity, artist, age, and tribal attribution have not been independently verified. See photos for signature, details, and condition.
