This set of English red earthenware features a cream-colored slip and hand-painted cottage pattern. Each item displays sgraffito or painted mottos and regional place names in a classic script. Marks include a square stamp reading DEVONMOTTO WARE ENGLAND, a circular stamp for ROYAL WATCOMBE TORQUAY ENGLAND, and square WATCOMBE TORQUAY ENGLAND stamps. The set includes a large pitcher, various creamers, cups, saucers, condiment jars, trays, and egg cups. The large pitcher measures approximately 8 inches in height. Most pieces exhibit visible crazing and general wear to the hand-painted decoration. Small chips are present on several base rims, and some vessels show internal staining from use.
