Roméo Savoie (1928–2023), acrylic on canvas, "Abstract Flower", 33" x 27", signed lower right and dated 08' (framed). Roméo Savoie (1928–2023) was an influential Acadian painter, poet and architect from Moncton, New Brunswick. After working as an architect, Savoie devoted himself to painting and developed a distinctive abstract practice characterized by experimentation with colour, form, texture and technique. His work has been exhibited extensively in Canada and internationally and is represented in major public collections. Among his many honours are the Miller Brittain Award, Strathbutler Award, an honorary doctorate from the Université de Moncton, and appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada. Savoie is recognized as one of New Brunswick’s most important contemporary Acadian artists.
