Anneke Betlem, watercolour, "East Dover Nova Scotia", 14" x 21", signed lower right (framed). Anneke Betlem was a Canadian artist who was active in Nova Scotia's contemporary art community during the 1970s and later years. Her work included painting in both oil and watercolour, with a particular interest in the Nova Scotian landscape and coastal communities. Betlem exhibited her work in Halifax, including a 1975 exhibition of recent works at Eye Level Gallery with artist Mark Adams. Her paintings reflect an appreciation for the distinctive character, architecture and rugged coastal landscape of Atlantic Canada. The present watercolour, “East Dover, Nova Scotia”, reflects Betlem's interest in the province's coastal environment and is a fine example of her work depicting Nova Scotia's landscape.
