and Lions, 5th-7th-Century.

H:27.8cm W:14cm Wt:585.3g

Gilt-silver ewer, Sasanian-Persian manufacture, 5th-7th-century, transported eastward along the Silk Road. Conforming to canonical Sasanian ewer typology, with pointed pouring spout and curved handle terminating in animal-head finial. Slender tapering neck, voluminous globular body and tall foot. Shoulder chased with scrolling foliate ornament. The main body is richly decorated in high relief with costumed Sasanian figures and lions, iconography intrinsic to Sasanian visual culture, modelled with deep three-dimensional relief. Tall foot fully adorned with chased patterns. Deep ancient patina covers silver surface; patchy residual gilding remains. High-status Sasanian metalwork reached East-Asia via trade and tribute, shaping medieval regional metal-art aesthetics. This ewer preserves the formal and iconographic language of Sasanian royal workshops. Superb repouss?? and chasing technique. Major artefact of ancient cross-cultural exchange. Ewer in good overall condition.

ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS OR CANCELLATIONS.

Additional photographs and condition reports may be provided upon request as a courtesy only.
