ON MASONITE. <br><br>Image Size: 20 5/16 by 14 3/8 inches (52 by 36.7 cm) All measurements are approximate.<br><br>Signed (lower right) Philip Guston (born Phillip Goldstein, June 27, 1913 - June 7, 1980) was a Canadian American painter, printmaker, muralist and draftsman. "Guston worked in a number of artistic modes, from Renaissance-inspired figuration to formally accomplished abstraction,"[1] and is now regarded as one of the "most important, powerful, and influential American painters of the last 100 years". Guston-paintings are an evocative amalgam of imagery, his paints them in soft pastel hues, with cartoon-like features that border-precariously-on sweetness, with the levity of cartoon violence.
