Hand-carved and painted wooden shorebird sculpture by J.C. West, modeled as a sandpiper-type bird standing alert on slender metal legs above a natural piece of weathered driftwood. The bird features inset glass eyes, a long tapered dark bill, delicately painted tan and cream plumage, dark wing and tail markings, and finely patterned black accents across the breast and throat. The rustic driftwood base complements the coastal subject and gives the carving a naturalistic presentation. The underside is hand-inscribed “J.C. West 1977.” Condition shows light age-related wear, including scattered scratches, rubbing and minor paint loss, with natural cracking and weathering to the driftwood base. Measures 5.25"H x 6"W x 7"D.
