Elaborately decorated early 20th century writing table by Empire Manufacturing Company of Rockford, Illinois, featuring a richly figured top bordered with contrasting inlay above two burl-paneled drawers fitted with metal ring pulls. The apron is heavily carved with repeating classical ornament and a central foliate motif, while substantial scroll-form side supports are joined by an ornate pierced stretcher with carved leaf and rosette decoration. A low foot stretcher retains an upholstered central pad. The drawer bears the “ROCKFORD / The Empire Mfg. Co.” label; Rockford’s Midway Village Museum documents Empire Manufacturing Company as a maker of “high grade furniture” operating in Rockford by 1920. The table shows age and use with scratches, scuffs, finish wear, veneer and inlay losses, cracking and lifting to portions of the burl border, staining and abrasions to the top, wear to carved elements, and deterioration to the upholstered foot pad. Measures 30"H x 52"W x 18"D
