Group of two 19th century novelty match holders, each displaying distinctive period decorative forms. The first is a silver-plated cauldron-form match holder by Hartford Silver Plate Co., marked to the reverse with the maker’s circular stamp and additional impressed numbers, designed with a rounded vessel body raised on three short feet and fitted with a substantial twisted-metal swing handle. The second is an unusual brass match holder modeled as a pair of miniature slippers joined by a looping wire hanger, each shoe decorated with embossed floral and foliate ornament and applied scrolling decoration across the vamp. Both pieces retain an appealing aged surface and patina, with scattered scuffs, scratches, oxidation, rubbing, and general surface wear consistent with age and use. Cauldron Match Holder measures 6.75" H x 5" W x 2" D. Slippers match holder measures 4.75" H x 4.5" W.
