from bone and raised on a dark carved wood display stand. The body is worked in pierced and relief decoration with dense geometric, foliate, and figural motifs, while the fitted circular lid is elaborately carved with a miniature landscape scene populated by robed figures among trees and architectural elements. The openwork carving gives the piece strong depth and shadow, and the dark wood base provides an attractive contrast to the warm ivory-toned bone. The box opens to a smooth hollow interior and retains its fitted carved lid. Condition shows some scuffs, light surface wear, and minor age-related rubbing, particularly to the carved high points and stand, with no obvious major breaks. Measures 2.5" Tall.
