Howard Terpning, "Abandoned," an impressive signed and numbered limited edition canvas, number 146 of only 200, presenting one of the celebrated American Western artist's richly conceived narratives of Crow, or Apsáalooke, life on the nineteenth-century frontier. Monumental in scale and cinematic in conception, the composition depicts a mounted Crow party encountering an abandoned log structure deep within a sunlit woodland, transforming a seemingly quiet discovery into an evocative narrative of movement, observation and the rapidly changing American West. Terpning orchestrates the scene with exceptional dramatic control. The weathered timber enclosure forms a powerful architectural foreground, while the mounted figures, horses and standing warrior create a carefully layered progression through the composition.
