Romero Britto (Brazilian, b. 1963), "For You," 2020. A substantial and exuberantly colored hand-painted sculptural multiple, handcrafted in resin and conceived in Britto's immediately recognizable contemporary Pop Art vocabulary. The seated dog is transformed into a joyful three-dimensional patchwork of saturated turquoise, orange, magenta, violet, yellow, red, green and blue, unified by bold black contours and animated with polka dots, stripes, hearts, geometric divisions and calligraphic motifs. A vivid red envelope tied at the collar reinforces the sculpture's affectionate "For You" theme, while the dramatically mismatched ears, oversized paws and engaging expression give the composition a particularly playful and charismatic presence. At more than two feet in height, this is a commanding large-scale example whose considerable physical presence distinguishes it from Britto's numerous smaller-format sculptural editions.<br><br>Hand-signed in pigment by Romero Britto and numbered I 377/500. The accompanying Park West Gallery Certificate of Authenticity, registration no. 895337.0377, identifies the work as "For You," dated 2020, and describes it as a hand-painted sculpture handcrafted in resin and hand-signed by the artist, from an international edition of 500 examples, with an additional numbered proof edition also documented. The sculpture additionally bears Park West Gallery Sculpture Editions identification. Accompanied by the original Park West Gallery Certificate of Authenticity, a Park West Gallery appraisal dated June 13, 2022 assigning a retail replacement value of $9,100 USD, and related Park West correspondence, providing an unusually complete documentary package for the secondary market.<br><br>Britto's distinctive fusion of Pop imagery, graphic pattern, brilliant color and optimistic subject matter has made his work among the most immediately identifiable expressions of contemporary Neo-Pop art, and his animal sculptures occupy an especially accessible and collectible place within his three-dimensional oeuvre.
