Presenting an exceptional hand-sculpted and signed Chinese Door God (??) guardian figurine, a stunning representation of traditional temple iconography and Chinese folk art craftsmanship. This commanding figure is depicted in full ceremonial armor, wielding a long spear and standing atop a swirling cloud pedestal - symbolizing divine protection and celestial presence. His intense expression, fierce eyebrows, and detailed regalia evoke the legendary temple guardians believed to ward off evil spirits and bring security to sacred spaces.
This masterpiece is hand-painted in rich polychrome glazes with superb attention to detail: from the individually sculpted armor plates adorned with celestial motifs and dragons, to the swirling cobalt blue ribbons dancing dynamically around the figure’s shoulders. The base features a richly enameled storm cloud design in shades of white, blue, and oxblood, providing a striking contrast to the deep hues of the figure above. A carved maker’s signature and incised inscription on the rear of the sculpture confirm the artisan’s name and the intended subject (?? - “Men Shen,” or Door God), while an impressed seal stamp on the base further authenticates the origin of this magnificent piece.
Crafted from high-fired glazed ceramic and accompanied by its original brocade presentation box with fitted satin lining, this figurine is preserved in excellent condition, showing no visible cracks, chips, or repairs. The vivid glazes retain their original luster and depth, indicating careful storage and display. Ideal for collectors of Chinese temple art, warrior guardian sculptures, or Asian decorative arts.
Dimensions:
Height (including base and spear): approx. 19 inches (48 cm), Width: approx. 10 inches (25 cm), Depth: approx. 8 inches (20 cm).
This is an exceptional collector’s piece that combines artistic mastery, cultural symbolism, and decorative appeal - a commanding addition to any collection of fine Chinese ceramics or spiritual art.
