Lladró Dancers from the Nile #01012457 Large Gres

A magnificent large-scale Lladró Gres porcelain sculptural group, Dancers from the Nile, model 01012457 / 2457, designed by celebrated Lladró sculptor Juan Ignacio Aliena and produced at the firm's workshops in Valencia, Spain. An ambitious and exceptionally theatrical composition, the work presents two elegantly modeled Egyptian women engaged in a scene of music and dance: one kneeling with a pair of slender pipes while her companion rises above her in a fluid, poised gesture, creating an unusually graceful sense of movement and interaction.<br><br>Executed in Lladró's distinctive Gres porcelain, the sculpture displays the richly nuanced, earth-toned palette for which the medium is particularly admired. Ivory-white garments are contrasted with warm ochre, muted turquoise, charcoal, bronze-brown and softly antiqued metallic tones, producing an intentionally archaeological character suggestive of ancient Egyptian wall painting and polychrome sculpture. The remarkable degree of surface articulation is evident throughout the composition, from the finely modeled braided and coiffed hair to the broad ceremonial collars, diadems, earrings, bracelets, armlets, anklets, patterned bodices and deeply textured pleated garments.<br><br>The sculptural complexity becomes even more apparent when viewed in the round. The sweeping silhouette of the standing dancer, the concentrated expression of the kneeling musician, the delicately extended fingers, slender musical instruments, ornamental vessel, cushioned seat and carefully resolved rear details demonstrate the considerable technical demands of producing a porcelain composition of this scale and intricacy. The multiple projecting hands, jewelry elements and musical accessories also make the exceptional preservation of the present example particularly desirable.<br><br>The underside bears the blue Lladró factory mark with Made in Spain and © DAISA 2003 designation, together with the impressed model number 2457. The composition is approximately 20 inches high and represents one of the more substantial Egyptian-inspired figural groups within Lladró's sculptural production.<br><br>An especially compelling acquisition for collectors of Lladró porcelain, Lladró Gres sculpture, Juan Ignacio Aliena works, Spanish art porcelain, Egyptian Revival decorative arts and large-scale figural ceramics. Its combination of monumental presence, intricate costume detailing, sophisticated coloration and strong narrative composition gives Dancers from the Nile considerable visual impact from virtually every viewing angle and makes it exceptionally well suited to a serious Lladró collection or prominent interior display.<br><br>Upon careful examination, the delicate fingers, musical pipes, headdresses, jewelry, vessel, extremities and other vulnerable projecting elements are intact, with no chips, cracks, losses or repairs. The Gres coloration and sculptural surfaces also appear exceptionally well preserved.
