Title: Boat beneath a Starry Sky Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 23 x 16 inches Year: 19th century; reverse label references 1889 Condition: Good overall condition, with strong colors and minor age-related wear consistent with the medium. The reverse exhibits toning and scattered marks. The frame displays substantial wear, losses, abrasions, and exposed wood. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the condition report. Provenance: The reverse bears a Curt Valentin Gallery label from 32 East 57th Street, New York, identifying Vincent van Gogh, the title “Voilier,” the year 1889, and oil on canvas. A Christie’s stamp also appears on the reverse of the canvas. These markings are presented as found and have not been independently verified. Visual Description: A nocturnal waterscape depicting a solitary wooden boat moving across choppy blue water toward a distant church and dark cypress trees. Brilliant yellow stars and a crescent moon illuminate a sky filled with sweeping bands of blue, white, and green. Energetic brushwork and shimmering reflections evoke the Post-Impressionist visual language associated with Vincent van Gogh. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
