COURTYARD FIGURES AND STORIES FROM THE BLANK PERIOD OF THE MING DYNASTY. <br>Height:35cm (13.78in) , Diameter:36cm (14.17in) This imposing jar has straight mouth, short neck, full shoulder and tapering lower body. The rim is bordered by key?fret pattern. Neck?shoulder zone is painted with surging sea waves and mythical beasts. The main body unfolds continuous courtyard narrative scene, featuring pavilions, cloud scrolls, scholars travelling amid landscape of plants and rocks, with vividly depicted figures. The lower portion is fully covered by rolling ocean?wave motifs. The cobalt?blue tone carries subtle greyish undertone, rendered with sincere, unrestrained brushwork and dense multi?layered composition. The unglazed sandy base is robust, bearing natural aged patina and wear marks. The Zhengtong?Jingtai?Tianshun era is known as Ming ??Interregnum??. Large figural?story jars from this period are rarely encountered.
