Waln (1825-1909) Prominent Philadelphia Family Provenance. Married Edward Waln/ Daughter Ellen Nixon Waln Married Charles Curtis Harrison Sr. Subject: Ellen Nixon Waln.Historical Sitter Info: Born Dec 4, 1846; later married University of Pennsylvania Provost Charles Custis Harrison. Ancestry: Great-granddaughter of Founding Father Robert Morris and great-great-granddaughter of John Nixon (who first read the Declaration of Independence publicly). Medium: Oil on canvas. Date / Era: Mid-19th Century (circa 1850s). Frame: Housed in an impressive, deep-set antique giltwood and carved frame. Inscriptions (Verso): Hand-written ink provenance on the backing reads: "Ellen Nixon Waln, Mother of Mrs. C.C. Harrison, daughter of Henry & Maria Nixon." (Note: Maria Nixon was the daughter of Robert Morris). Labels (Verso): Retains a vintage paper label attached to the frame reading: "Mrs. Waln - Getty - 1942".
