Global Maritime Merchant: Early in life, he engaged in lucrative global maritime trade, executing commercial voyages to China and the East Indies, and eventually owning several merchant shipping vessels. Industrialist & Cotton Manufacturer: As New England's economy shifted, he became a major textile industrialist, owning and operating the Georgiaville Cotton Mills in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Banking Pioneer: A cornerstone of the early Providence financial sector, he served for many years as the President of the National Exchange Bank. Historic Interring: He is buried in the elite, historic Nightingale Family Plot at the famous Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, RI.
