Pair of white porcelain bull figurines, hand painted with multicolored floral sprays across the sides and back. Each bull is modeled in a lowered-head charging pose on an oval base and finished in a bright glossy glaze, with gold paint on the horns, hooves and tail tip. One base still carries its original gold and black foil label reading TILSO JAPAN, a mark found on Japanese decorative porcelain exported to the United States in the 1950s and 1960s; the second bull is unmarked but matches in size, modeling and decoration. Each measures roughly 7 inches long against the ruler shown. Condition is very good - the glaze is bright, no chips or cracks are visible, and the only wear is light thinning of the gold on the horns and hooves. Marked Japanese porcelain of this period is collected for the hand painting as much as the form, and a matched pair is harder to find than a single. Sold as-is.
