A vintage shield-shaped car badge or grille plaque representing the city of Cologne (Köln), Germany. The badge features the official city coat of arms executed in champlevé enamel on a gilded metal base. The upper section displays the name KÖLN in white lettering. The heraldic design includes three gilded crowns on a textured red translucent enamel field, representing the Three Wise Men, above a white field decorated with eleven gilded heraldic ermine tails, symbolizing Saint Ursula and her companions. The badge is designed with two pre-drilled mounting holes for attachment to a vehicle radiator grille or badge bar. The reverse features a textured gilded finish. Dimensions: approx. W 42 mm x H 58 mm. Condition: Fair to good vintage condition. There is visible surface scratching and light abrasions to the enamel surface consistent with age and use. A small area of enamel loss and chipping is present at the base of the white section on the lower curved edge. The gilded metal shows minor wear to the edges. The reverse shows spots of oxidation and tarnish.
