Browning Model 1895 Lever-Action Rifle – .30-06 Springfield – Made in Japan by Miroku Up for auction is a beautifully preserved Browning Model 1895 lever-action rifle, chambered in .30-06 Springfield. This is Browning's faithful reproduction of John Moses Browning's original 1895 Winchester design — the first lever-action rifle to use a box magazine rather than a tubular magazine, allowing it to safely handle pointed spitzer-style cartridges like the .30-06. Manufacturer & Markings Roll-marked "BROWNING 1895 — CALIBER .30-06" on top of the barrel near the receiver Barrel address stamped "BROWNING ARMS COMPANY, MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL, P.Q. — MADE IN JAPAN," confirming manufacture by Miroku in Japan, widely regarded for producing some of the finest quality Browning reproductions Serial number clearly stamped on the receiver Features Classic lever-action design with exposed hammer and distinctive box-magazine profile (no visible magazine tube beneath the barrel — a hallmark of the original 1895 pattern) Color case–hardened style receiver finish contrasted with a deep, glossy blued barrel Checkered lever loop and steel trigger guard Semi-buckhorn adjustable rear sight paired with a hooded, ramped front sight Straight-grip American walnut stock and forend with a rich, warm finish and attractive grain Solid buttplate; smooth, well-figured wood throughout with minimal handling marks Condition This rifle presents in excellent, collector-grade condition. The bluing is bright and even with strong original finish retained on the barrel and metal surfaces. The walnut stock shows nice figure and a clean, unblemished finish. Overall the rifle displays crisp lettering, tight wood-to-metal fit, and shows only light, consistent handling wear — a fine example for the Browning or lever-action collector. Why It's Collectible The Browning 1895 is a historically significant design as the first Winchester/Browning lever-action to feed from a box magazine, enabling use of modern high-power cartridges such as the .30-06 and .30-40 Krag. Miroku-produced Browning reproductions are highly sought after by collectors for their fit, finish, and fidelity to the original Winchester pattern, making this an excellent addition to any lever-action, Browning, or classic American rifle collection.
