Browning Model 1895 Lever-Action Rifle — Caliber .30-40 Krag — Made in Japan (Miroku) Up for auction is a beautifully preserved Browning Model 1895 lever-action rifle, chambered in the classic .30-40 Krag cartridge. This is the Browning-branded reissue of John Moses Browning's original 1895 design — manufactured for Browning Arms Company by Miroku in Japan, faithfully reproducing the box-magazine lever action that made the original Winchester Model 1895 famous as the rifle carried by Theodore Roosevelt on safari. Key Features Model: Browning 1895, re-issue of the iconic Winchester-era Browning design Caliber: .30-40 (.30 U.S. Army / Krag) Action: Lever-action with distinctive box magazine (not tube-fed), allowing use of spitzer-style pointed bullets Manufacture: Made in Japan by Miroku for Browning Arms Company, Morgan, Utah & Montreal, P.Q. Finish: Rich blued steel receiver and barrel with vivid color case-hardened-style finish on the frame Stock: Select figured American walnut with straight-grip buttstock and forend, showing excellent grain and a high-gloss finish Sights: Blued buckhorn rear sight with elevation ladder, hooded/blade front sight Overall Condition: Excellent — bright, sharp bluing, crisp markings, and minimal handling wear consistent with a lightly used or safe-queen example Markings Barrel is roll-marked: "Browning Arms Company Morgan, Utah & Montreal P.Q. — Made in Japan" and "Browning 1895 Caliber .30-40". Serial number is clearly stamped on the receiver. Collector Appeal The Model 1895 holds a unique place in firearms history as the first successful box-magazine lever-action rifle, designed by John Browning to handle the pointed, high-velocity military cartridges of its day — including the .30-40 Krag used by the U.S. Army. This Browning-produced commemorative/reissue variant is highly sought after by lever-action collectors, Browning enthusiasts, Krag cartridge collectors, and fans of Old West and Rough Rider history. Its limited production run and Japanese Miroku craftsmanship make it a standout addition to any collection of classic American lever guns.
