Built as an affordable, all-American pump-action plinker and small-game gun, the Model 29 series was a mainstay of mid-20th-century Savage production and remains a favorite entry point for vintage .22 and slide-action collectors today. The rifle features Savage's exposed-hammer takedown design, with a knurled takedown knob mounted mid-barrel allowing the gun to be broken down for storage or transport — a practical feature aimed squarely at the hunting and camping crowd of its era. The tubular magazine runs beneath the barrel, fed and cycled through a deeply grooved walnut slide handle, and the straight-grip walnut buttstock carries a period-correct hard rubber buttplate. Blued metal shows honest handling and finish wear consistent with age and use, most notably at the wood-to-metal junction of the receiver, and the initials "H E" are neatly stamped into the barrel shank at the takedown joint — likely an early owner's mark, and a nice bit of added provenance and character for the next collector in this rifle's history. A solid, all-original example of a genuinely American slide-action .22 — the kind of well-worn, honestly used rifle that built generations of shooters, and a worthwhile pickup for collectors of vintage Savage arms, pump-action .22s, or classic American rimfire rifles generally.
